This unique event combines trail running with an immersive historical experience in the beautiful Westhoek. The Belgian Front Memorial Trail, chosen by Toerisme Vlaanderen as part of the Landscapes theme year, highlights the region’s rich historical landscape, imbued with First World War traces. This special initiative is not only aimed at sports and history enthusiasts, but also raises funds for scientific research into ALS.
Explore the historic First World War front line during a challenging trail run. The route takes participants past the memorable war memorials, cemeteries and historical sites shaping this region. Supporters can both enjoy the sights along the way and encourage their loved ones.

Practical information
Date: Saturday 18 May 2024
The Long Way: 100+ km solo or with a relay team of up to 10 people – departure at 8 a.m. from the Mesen Peace Village – arrival at the Nieuwpoort yacht harbour
Half Marathon: 21 km – departure at 2 p.m. on the main square in Dixmude – arrival at the Nieuwpoort yacht harbour
Short Run: 2.5 km – departure at 3 p.m. at the Albert I monument in Nieuwpoort – arrival at the Nieuwpoort yacht harbour
Participating in the 'Long Run' or the 'Half Marathon' presents the unique opportunity of passing through the Trench of Death.
